Our Beliefs

Learn what Bethany believes and how our faith shapes worship, ministry, discipleship, and daily life.

Our Beliefs

At Bethany Church of the Nazarene, everything we believe is centered on Jesus Christ and the truth of God’s Word.

We believe the Bible reveals God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ and provides guidance for faithful Christian living. Our desire is to love God, love others, and help people become devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Bethany Church of the Nazarene is part of the worldwide Church of the Nazarene, a Protestant Christian denomination in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition. We share its historic Christian beliefs and its mission of making Christlike disciples.

Whether you’re exploring Christianity for the first time or have followed Christ for many years, we invite you to learn more about the beliefs that shape our worship, our ministry, and our daily lives.

God, the Bible, and Jesus Christ

God

We believe there is one God who has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the Creator of all things, perfectly holy, completely loving, and always faithful. He desires a personal relationship with every person and invites us to know Him through Jesus Christ.

Learn More About God

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word and is trustworthy for teaching, guidance, encouragement, and daily living. Through Scripture, we learn who God is, understand His plan of salvation, and discover how to follow Jesus faithfully.

Why We Trust the Bible

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God who became fully human while remaining fully God. Through His life, death on the cross, and resurrection, Jesus made forgiveness of sins and eternal life available to everyone who places their faith in Him. Jesus continues to transform lives today and offers hope, peace, forgiveness, and new life to all who come to Him.

Learn About Jesus

If you would like to explore any of these beliefs more deeply, we invite you to visit our Learning Center, attend one of our Discipleship Classes, or speak with one of our pastors. We’d be happy to continue the conversation with you.

Salvation, Grace, and Holiness

Salvation

We believe salvation is God’s free gift, made possible through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. No one can earn God’s love or forgiveness. Through faith in Jesus, we receive forgiveness of sin, a restored relationship with God, and the promise of eternal life. Salvation is the beginning of a lifelong journey of growing in faith and becoming more like Christ.

Grace

We believe God’s grace is at work in every person’s life. God’s grace reaches out to us before we seek Him, draws us toward Him, forgives us when we trust in Christ, and continues to strengthen us as we grow in our faith. We depend on God’s grace every day and believe He continues to guide, encourage, and transform those who follow Him.

Understanding God’s Grace

Holiness

As part of the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, we believe God calls every Christian to a life that reflects His love and character. Holiness is not about perfection or earning God’s acceptance. It is the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, helping us love God more fully, love others more faithfully, and live lives that honor Jesus Christ. Through God’s grace, we continue growing in Christ as He transforms our hearts, our attitudes, and our daily lives.

What Is Holiness?

Growing Every Day

Following Jesus is more than a one-time decision. It is a lifelong journey of learning, growing, serving, and becoming more like Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.

At Bethany, we want to encourage one another as we continue growing in faith together.

No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, God’s grace is available to you today. We would be honored to help you learn more about following Jesus Christ.

Baptism and Communion

Baptism

We believe baptism is a public expression of a person’s faith in Jesus Christ and a celebration of God’s grace at work in their life.

Baptism does not save us. Rather, it is an outward sign of the inward transformation that God has already begun through faith in Jesus Christ.

The Church of the Nazarene practices both infant baptism and believer’s baptism. We recognize baptism by sprinkling, pouring, or immersion, understanding that the meaning of baptism is more important than the method.

If you are interested in being baptized or would like to learn more, we would be happy to talk with you.

Communion

Communion, also known as the Lord’s Supper, reminds us of Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death and His resurrection. As we share the bread and the cup, we remember God’s love, celebrate His grace, and proclaim the hope we have in Christ.

At Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.

The Church of the Nazarene practices an open Communion table. If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ or are sincerely seeking Him, you are welcome to participate.

Participation in Communion is always voluntary. If you are not ready to participate, you are welcome to remain seated and reflect during this time.

The Church, Prayer, and Our Hope

The Church

We believe the Church is the family of God, made up of people from every nation, culture, and background who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. The Church exists to worship God, grow in faith, care for one another, share the Good News of Jesus Christ, and serve our communities with compassion and love. At Bethany, we believe every person has unique gifts and abilities that God can use to encourage others and strengthen His Church.

Life at Bethany

Prayer

We believe prayer is one of the greatest privileges God has given us. Through prayer we worship God, thank Him, seek His wisdom, share our concerns, and pray for the needs of others. Prayer is not limited to a church service—it is part of our everyday relationship with God. At Bethany, prayer is an important part of our worship, discipleship, and daily life. We gather each Friday from 12:00 PM–1:00 PM for Friday Prayer, and we welcome anyone who would like to join us.

The Return of Christ

We believe Jesus Christ will return as He promised. While we do not know the day or the hour of His return, we live with hope, confidence, and expectation, trusting God’s promises and seeking to faithfully follow Christ each day.

Our Hope in Christ

Eternal Life

We believe that everyone will spend eternity in the presence of God or separated from Him. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the gift of eternal life and the hope of living forever with Him. This promise gives us confidence today and hope for the future.
